Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction!

Hi everyone

When I was reading the local paper the other day I came across the lovely story of a lady who had donated a mirror to a charity shop up country. Later on, once she had moved house and county, she realised that she missed having that particular mirror and so began looking for a replacement. The strange thing is that after a prolonged search she found just the thing...............her original mirror in a charity shop near her new home. She knew it was her mirror because it was engraved with initials personal to her. How surprising is that! You wouldn't have expected such a thing could happen.
People's experience of ill health can also sometimes be surprising but more often than not homeopaths can match these descriptions of ill health to particular remedy pictures. For example Cimicifuga is a homeopathic medicine and when healthy people have taken it (in order to test it out) they describe feeling trapped, as if entwined in barbed wire! Perhaps it sounds a little strange but it is in fact a sensation that I have heard expressed in a consultation.  A very real sensation for the person experiencing it. Giving homeopathic Cimicifuga helped the person move through what was a dark period in their life and the sensation disappeared. Indeed truth can be stranger than fiction, we couldn't make it up!

Have a great week!

How do you feel?

Hi everyone

I woke up grumpy and tired this morning, which isn't really like me! So I took myself away to my usual weekly keep fit session, which I have in fact missed for the last two weeks, in the hope that I would feel better and I do!!
The exercise and the friendliness of the group both helped me to come back home in a happier, healthier frame of mind.

I am glad that I took the oppurtunity to get out and about this morning as it would have been quite easy to have had a duvet morning! The lesson for me is that bodies not only need rest but also timely exercise and mine needed to get back in to the swing after missing two weeks. Maintaining good health is about listening to what our
bodies need and responding accordingly, sometimes rest is the best medicine, sometimes the best tonic is a good workout, the tricky bit is not getting the messages confused!

Have a great week!

No fuss homeopathy!

Hi everyone

I like to call the way I work as a homeopath, 'No fuss homeopathy'. This means that I practice homeopathy without imposing upon you a long list of things you can't do once you begin to take the homeopathic medicines or even a long list of things you must do.

My aim is to empower you, not to restrict you even more. You won't hear me say anything about avoiding mint/mint flavours or about buying mint free toothpaste. I won't ban you from drinking coffee but if you are drinking too much then it is my experience that you will naturally reduce your in take as the homeopathic remedies get to work and help you restore the balance in your life.

It is my belief that being treated with homeopathy doesn't have to be hard work. Any changes that do come about in lifestyle or attitudes are a natural progression as you return to being as well as you can be. Don't be surprised then if you do drop the 6 cups of coffee down to 1 a day, that the desire to smoke decreases and the need for that evening alcoholic tipple or three reduces. Your diet will probably become healthier and you will may well begin to exercise again. All pointers that you are getting back to your old self, without me laying down the law!

Have a great week.

Homeopathy is like....

Hi everyone

Having had a little bit of a lie in on Wednesday morning, I was struck by the less than tidy state of my kitchen when I came downstairs. It didn't take too long to sort out, once I got started, after a cup of tea I have to say and a slice of toast! It did set me thinking though about my work as a homeopath.

Often when someone comes for their first appointment the story of their ill health  can seem to be confused, untidy, even chaotic. However, as the case unfolds over the following appointments and the homeopathic medicines get to work I think gradually order happens. Things get tidied up, connections between life events and health and well being are made, patterns emerge and balance can return.

I think being treated with homeopathy is a bit like the benefit from tidying up a messy kitchen. A clean kitchen is ready for whatever a husband and sons (in my case) can throw at it, a dirty kitchen just gets more and more chaotic! So with our health, being as healthy as possible allows us to recover more quickly from the stresses life throws our way. For me, homeopathy is a good way to 'tidy up' my health and I love helping others to do the same.

Hope you all have a fabulous week!

Thought for the week!

Hi everyone

Today I thought I would share the wisdom of the 14th Dalai Lama with you:

...................we must try and do something good, something useful, with our lives.
If you contribute to other people's happiness, you will find the true goal, the meaning of life.

I don't think I need say anything more!

Have a fabulous week!

Whats your body trying to tell you?

Hi everyone

My husband has always said that in his experience a car will let you know that it is going to break down soon! Trouble is these tell tale signs are often missed or ignored and sure enough the car does 'it's thing' and stops working.

I think it is the same with us humans too. I know that when our bodies produce symptoms of being unwell we often miss them because we have lost the knack of tuning in to ourselves. Or we ignore the signs and carry on.

Our bodies are doing their best to fix themselves but if they are unable to put things right and we miss or ignore these signs then our bodies have no option but to send us bigger messages until we do listen and take steps to put things right.

So let's not ignore that weird clonking noise the car is making; it is trying to tell us all is not well and a mechanic is needed sooner rather than later.

Let's also be mindful of what are our bodies trying to tell us.

Have a great symptom free week!

Positive thinking!

Hi everyone

As I was wondering through my sitting room on Saturday afternoon, I heard one of the tv football commentators quote Forrest Gump, 'life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get!' I think we can all relate to this and it set me thinking.

I feel it is what we make of what life sends us that matters and the more positive we can be the better, but of course this isn't always easy. Johnny Wilkinson the rugby player is well know for visualising a postive outcome before he takes his kicks
(didn't go quite so well in England's first world cup match though) and the more positive we can be in our life the more likely it is that things will turn out better than we hoped.

There are lots of self help books out there to help us find ways of putting the positivity back. My favourite at the moment is Deepak Chopra's 'The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success'. Perhaps it could be an inspiration to you too?

By the way if we are talking chocolates my favourites are the soft centres, (orange creams and especially peppermint creams!)

Hope you have a week filled with positive things!

School Anxiety

Hi everyone

Worrying is like a rocking chair, it is something to do, but doesn't get you anywhere! A friend said this to me many years ago when I was getting very anxious about my A level exams. I was worrying about my future if things didn't go as planned!

This saying has come back to me as I notice an autumnal feel in the air which means that September is here already and the return to school is imminent. Many children become anxious about going to 'big school', moving to a new class or changing teachers. Older children can find the move to secondary school or 6th form college difficult. A whole range of symptoms can arise from headaches to tummy aches, trouble going off to sleep or just feeling unsettled and 'not themselves'.

As a parent I know that this is a troublesome time of year for us too. We can feel bereft and lost, anxious that our children will be ok.

When symptoms of anxiety become stuck or prolonged it is time to check with your GP that there is nothing else happening to cause these problems. Then I know from my experience as both a homeopath and a Mum that there is much that homeopathy can do to help.

I hope that the return to school and college goes well for all of us, children and parents alike, but if you do need a some help I am here.

Wishing you an anxiety free week!

Laughter is the best medicine!

Hi everyone

I hope that you will find my blog helpful with useful health/homeopathic information and news of events that may interest you.

I hope that you will find my blog funny but don't worry I will find jokes to share,
I'll not be telling you my own!

I hope you will find my blog informative, worthwhile and that it will give you some insight in to what homeopaths do and what we hope to achieve.

Today a joke:
From Nick Helm who won first prize for the funniest joke at the Edinburgh Fringe.

'I needed a password 8 characters long, so I picked Snow White and the Seven Dwarves'. (Hope you liked this one?!!)

Who was it said 'laughter is the best medicine'?
I can't say that I know and I won't tell you jokes during a consultation (promise) but I always hope that you will feel better when you leave compared to when you arrived.

Wishing you all well for this bank holiday week!
